Where advisory firms are actually constrained, and what could be built there.
Most firms run a website, a CRM, planning software, portfolio systems, custodians and a compliance platform, and the work still depends on people, spreadsheets and memory. This guide assesses the gaps between the tools a firm already owns, for the people who decide what gets funded.

The gaps between systems are where the work stalls.
Marketing data does not reach the CRM in a form anyone can act on. The CRM does not become client intelligence without someone building that step. Client data does not turn into advisor action on its own, and AI does not know a firm’s policies unless someone teaches them to it. Each of those gaps falls between two owners and belongs to neither, which is how they survive three software purchases and two reorganizations.
Buying another platform has not closed them.
Bought the integration the vendor said would connect the two systems, and still export a CSV every month
Ran an AI pilot that demonstrated beautifully and never reached production
Hired for the gap, and watched a capable person become the integration
Those purchases were reasonable decisions on their own terms. The connective work between systems has no owner, no budget line and no vendor selling it, so it stays undone while the stack continues to grow.
Here’s what the guide covers.
Name the gap that is actually holding your firm back, in one sentence.
from “The modern advisory firm has a systems problem”See where growth leaks before it reaches a pipeline report.
from “Growth, and how it leaks”Tell the difference between a technology stack and a technology system.
from “A stack is not a system”Ask the six questions your data should answer every morning.
from “You already own the data”Know what production AI in a supervised firm actually requires.
from “Don’t just deploy it. Prove it works”Walk into a vendor conversation with the architecture already in your head.
from “What can be built”Choose a workflow that fits your task, then check the requirements before trying it.
Choose a workflow you can put to use.
Start with one task and the matching chapter. Gather the inputs, try the example, and check the result against your requirements. The guide is a reference for that process. Your tools, access and experience determine what is practical for you.
